Help old tires give new bounce to playgrounds by recycling them! Fayette County is offering a free tire roundup to residents and farmers as well as small businesses that generate less than five percent of their revenue from the sale of tires.
Accepted tires include: tires on the rim, tires from farm equipment, and tires from passenger vehicles. Tires will NOT be accepted if they are filled with foam, have pressed-on rims, or if they are large-equipment tires (such as back hoe tires) with a tire bead of more than 1 ¾ inches in diameter.
Thursday, November 1 through Saturday November 3, 2012, bring acceptable used tires to 1631 Old Frankfort Pike between 7am and 5pm.
Recycled tires will be made into new surfaces for playground or walking paths, mulch or new fuel! Recycling tires also benefits the health of the community because abandoned tires can collect standing water, serving as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Did you know? Fayette County, Ky residents who have curbside trash pickup may also dispose of up to 4 tires per year. Just make sure any rims are removed from the tire and then call LexCall 311 to schedule a pickup.
Stay tuned for more recycling information all through the month of November.
