Teen Bedroom #1

Before:

This bedroom had been previously shared by two teenaged sisters. When one sister moved into another bedroom, she took the bed with her (the bottom bunk) but left most of her belongings behind.  A serious catch-all situation developed afterwards.  Much like adult "bedroom #1" the entire floor was covered with clothing and personal belongings, so much so that the remaining sister opted to sleep on the sofa rather than wade through the room to get to bed or her closet.

Stage 1:

The picture shows the results after the first five-hour session.  I sat with the sister occupying this bedroom and had her go through items, and we sorted out her sister's things from her own, weeding out trash, collecting clothing (dirty clothing vs. clean) and corralling keeper items into boxes.  Not only did we clear the center of the room (giving her back access to the bed) but we also cleared a path to the closet and began arranging the shoes and remaining clean clothing inside.

Stage 2:

During the next session, we focused mainly on the corner of the room to the left of the bed.  We completely cleared out the area, uncovered a couple of dresser units, and went through all the drawers.  The lower bunk area of the bed was being used now as a storage area for keeper items in process.

Stage 3:

Sometimes the process is a "two steps forward, one step back" situation.  Between sessions, the daughter decided she wanted to trade in the loft bed for a regular bed, and the parents complied immediately.  The bed displaced the stack of boxes and as you can see everything was shuffled down to block up access to the closet again.

On the other side of the bed, a computer station was brought in to sit in place of the two-drawer dresser (which was also moved to the foot of the bed.  It was back to being crowded but the daughter was much happier with this arrangement than the prior one.

Unfortunately, after this we did not get to finish this room as the parents decided to sell the house and the project had to be halted.
